About Us

Mr. McKinnon and Mr. Schaffer first met in September 1995, when Gary was a project engineer working for a large Australian contractor on the Australian Embassy project in Hanoi, Vietnam, and Tom was a building materials supplier who called on Gary trying to sell his wares.

Since then and through 2015, Gary and Tom worked on at least a dozen projects together, from international schools to Grade A office buildings to 5-star hotels, developing a solid working relationship and ways of working effectively with the local staff to ensure a high level of professionalism and timely deliveries of material and building handovers.

Gary and Tom remained in contact after Tom sold his building materials business and moved back to the United States in 2016, discussing various business ideas which could take advantage of their specialized knowledge, experience, and locations around the globe. They considered setting up an outsourcing business for several years, but it was not until mid-2021 that they decided on the niche that led to the formation of the Outsource Asia group.

Gary and Tom had individually engaged in various outsourcing services over the years and saw several limitations with the traditional outsourcing model, such as:

• Uncertainty about a vendor’s qualifications and/or the amount of other work that the vendor currently has on his/her plate
• Price ranges that are all over the map, which makes it difficult to assess the value
• Language and cultural challenges with outsourcing vendors who are based offshore
• The time it takes to properly explain a project and how it is to be detailed, filed, and/or completed can be more than originally planned

So, Gary and Tom worked to figure out a better way to offer construction industry-related outsourcing services that fit the needs of contractors and building material suppliers and fabricators, and inSource Global was born under the name Outsource Asia, and primarily serves as a marketing vehicle for Outsource Asia.

The niche that they came up with was offering educated and experienced engineers, architects, and draftsmen who work on a full-time and dedicated basis for clients, operating as a natural extension of a client’s own existing in-house design, detailing, and estimating teams, all for one fixed monthly fee that includes worker salaries and benefits, furnished and air-conditioned office space, a secure and high-speed internet connection, and general management.

This model overcomes all of the limitations of the traditional outsourcing model and takes advantage of the latest information technologies and recent development of having local US staff work remotely, and enables clients to expand their workforce quickly and without set-up costs. This model also enables clients to train their overseas-based remote workforce in their policies and procedures so that after a few months, they can expect similar output and quality of work at cost savings and enjoy that for years to come. Thus they can develop overseas staff with confidence.

Once the details of the business plan were worked out, and thanks to a few long-time contacts and some fortuitous timing in August 2021, Gary found three companies in his native Australia who were looking to expand their staff and were intrigued by the possibilities of Outsource Asia’s value proposition, and by early-February 2022, Outsource Asia was up and running.

By December 2021, with the model tested and the concept proven, the partners decided to launch in the United States.  Outsource Asia now also utilizes the inSource Global name to embody our global impact and international operations for select customers.
